John Rocco DellaVentura, 96, of 65 Messina Dr., East Haven died on Saturday, February 8, 2014. He has been the beloved husband of Anita Carrillo DellaVentura for the past 66 years. John was born in New Haven on February 24, 1917 to the late Modestino and Rose Lettieri DellaVentura. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons; John (Virginia) DellaVentura of Guilford, Thomas (Roseann) DellaVentura of Hamden and Joseph (Lynn) DellaVentura of Durham, two brothers; Frank (Margaret) DellaVentura of New Haven and Anthony DellaVentura of Boynton Beach, FL, five loving grandchildren; Tina (Shawn) Silver of Clinton, Denise (Matthew) Zukowski of Wallingford, John (Sarah) DellaVentura of Guilford, Adam (Nemi) DellaVentura of Wallingford and Amy (Jonathan) Brennan of New Rochelle, NY, seven cherished great grandchildren; Olivia and Julia Silver, Ethan, Connor and Andrew Zukowski, Grace and Abagail DellaVentura. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers; Michael and James DellaVentura and a sister Yolanda Bowen.
John is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force serving his country during WWII. He was a part of the Signal Service Aviation Battalion and saw action in New Guinea, Philippines and Luzon. Commendations he received for his wartime service included the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with four Bronze Service Stars, American Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the WWII Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After the service John became a dress cutter and worked at various local dress fabricating companies for many years. He worked his last 20 years for the Mode Dress Company until finally retiring in 1979. He is also a member of the Father Regan Council 3300. He was given lifetime honorary membership status by the Knights for his long time commitment and dedication to the organization.
Funeral will leave the EAST HAVEN MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, Wednesday morning at 11 O’clock for a Funeral Mass at St. Vincent dePaul Church at 11:30. Burial with Full Military Honors will take place in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the mass from 9 to 11:00.
